PORSCHE 944 TURBO
BOLT-ON PERFORMANCE COMPONENTS
PowerHaus’ Bolt-On 944 Turbo Performance Components are performance upgrades for all 944 Turbos 1986-90. While the following list does not including all possible improvements, is composed of those items, which we have found to deliver the best “bang-for-your-buck.” They are listed in the order the we recommend taking if you wish to improve your 944 Turbo step-by-step

 
1. PowerHaus K-27 Turbocharger Conversion:
All 1986-1988 944 Turbos came equipped with a K-26#6 turbo, and the 1988 ½ - “89” models came with a K-26#8. The main difference is size of the exhaust housing and turbine wheel. The larger # 8 turbine and hotter computer chips were the only major differences between the engines, and while the S model had a little more high rpm horsepower, the turbo also built boost later (more turbo lag).
    For most street applications the #6 housing is recommended, as this gives greater throttle response. Coupled with the K-27 compressor, you have a dyno’ed gain of 35hp.
    To ease installation our turbo is sold as a complete kit, including a new temperature sensor (the old one no longer fits), as well as a turbo inlet adapter for the larger K-27, and other custom pieces only available from PowerHaus.

1a. PH K-27-DR Turbo Conversion:

4. PH Stainless Sport Exhaust System:
Our lightweight bolt-in exhaust system replaces the restrictive factory exhaust. 
· The catalytic Test Pipe eliminates the two separate pipes for the engine exhaust and the wastegate, instead plumbing them into one mandrel-bent stainless steel test pipe eliminating the catalytic converter. 
· Our Sport Muffler also uses mandrel-bent stainless steel tubing and a very lightweight stainless canister - a bolt-in, free flowing package. Combined, our exhaust weighs less than half as much as the factory system - only 26lbs!

5. PH Mass Flow Sensor
:
The next upgrade is the PH Mass Flow Sensor for the 944 Turbo. This includes a pair of custom computer chips for the Mass Flow, as well as a K&N cone filter.
PH can customize the chips and sensor for the K-27 turbo, as well as any other engine modifications. The Mass Flow (hot wire) sensor makes the throttle response much faster, offering big drivability gains throughout the rev range. Overall horsepower and torque is greatly improved, especially when used with our K-27 turbo. We recommend buying the Mass Flow at the same time as the K-27 turbocharger to prevent buying chips twice, and as we will modify the kit at no extra charge to fit directly to the PH K-27 turbo with no headaches

PowerHaus does not recommend boost pressures higher than 1.0 bar, as you risk blowing your factory head gasket. We have special stainless steel wide fire ring head gaskets available for the 944 Turbos that allow you to safely run 1.1 bar. 6. PH Cylinder Head & Manifold
:
When airflow restriction has been removed from the engine (i.e. Sport Exhaust, Mass Flow Sensor), and greater airflow demands are put on the motor (K-27 Turbo), the next areas of improvement are the cylinder head and intake manifold. PowerHaus stocks fully prepared cylinder heads and intake manifolds:
· PH Heads are slightly ported and fully polished to increase air flow, then surfaced and O-ringed to virtually eliminate head gasket failure (tested up 1.7 bar boost!) We also perform full valve jobs with new guides, custom springs, and additional machining to increase pre-boost power. 
· PH manifolds are extrude honed to increase the internal diameter of the runners and leave them smooth as glass, improving airflow an average of 18%. Lastly, the runners are port-matched to the 
PH Cylinder Head.
Done together, these improvements average an additional 37 dyno proven horsepower, with huge gains in pre-boost power, overall drivability, and throttle response!

7. PH Clutch Packages:
Complete heavy-duty clutch & flywheel packages engineered to handle increased power and torque, while letting your engine rev up quicker: 
Street: PH lightweight billet aluminum pressure plate @ 3400lbs clamping force, 5lb weight savings. Uses Sachs Sport organic disc, included. Ideal pedal effort for street & track.
Sport: As above, but includes replacement lightweight flywheel (exchange) - Additional 6 lb. savings for better throttle response.

8. PH Aluminum Oil Cooler:
The largest, full-width oil cooler possible for the 944 Turbo (more than twice as large as our “competitor’s” cooler!) Our custom oil cooler solves most overheating problems by adding 2 Liters more oil to the system. The kit is complete with braided steel lines & adapters, and the cooler has a drain plug built into it to ease oil changes. On average, we see a 20C/36F coolant temperature drop! Easy installation, a must on 2.8L conversions.

9. PH Oil Pan & Pickup Tube:

PowerHaus is the industry leader in 944 Turbo developments. We have built scores of 2.8L engines with incredible results: the jump in torque and horsepower is overwhelming. With this setup it is possible achieve 500hp and 500lb/ft without engine management. Boost response is instantaneous; there is no turbo lag! You should never upgrade the front suspension alone. To maintain the car’s near 50/50 balance, you need to upgrade the rear suspension at the same time. You should then have your car aligned and corner balanced to optimize handling.
