The following components are PowerHaus’ tested & recommended upgrades for the 1995-1998 993 3.6L engine.
PowerHaus 3.6L Sport Engine Package
PH Hi-Flow ram air intake with K&N filter
PH Performance EPROM, 1995 models only
PH Sport Mufflers, polished stainless steel, w/ gaskets and hardware
1996-98 models Custom ECU performance reprogramming
RS Flywheel & GT2 clutch package w/ stronger pedal spring
PH Big-Bore throttle body (sold exchange)
RS Camshafts, exchange (sold exchange)
PH Sport Valve Springs & Titanium Retainers
The PH Hi-Flow intake is a tuned intake replacing the factory airbox assembly. On a stock 1998 993 we have measured a 9.9 HP and 8.9 lb/ft torque gain at peak rpm, and up to 18.3 HP and 25.8 lb/ft at different points in the rev range. Low RPM response is greatly improved. Combined with our EPROM/ECU reprogramming, the same 993 gained 23.9 HP & 23.9 TQ at peak RPM, and 27.9 MAX
The Mufflers save approximately 30lb and gives your 993 a strong, robust exhaust sound. They offer almost no backpressure, resulting in a little more hp and torque.
The RS flywheel is a one piece billet chromolly unit that replaces the original heavy, failure-prone dual mass flywheel and saves 14.5 lb. The Pressure plate is a lightweight aluminum unit with greater clamping strength, and the disc is a strong spring-centered unit. Every other small part inside the bell housing is included: ring gear, release bearing & guide tube, pilot bearing, main seal, and all hardware - everything you need to do the job from start to finish.
Now that the engine is able to “breathe” more air (and burn more fuel) it can benefit from a larger throttle body (even more air), increased fuel pressure (more fuel), and a stronger ignition (more spark). The cams similarly allow more air into the engine and broaden the torque curve, so that it builds power up to 6800 RPM, instead of falling off at 5700. The valve springs provide the safety to rev the engine to 7000RPM repeatedly.

The Ultimate performance increases comes from increasing the engines displacement. PowerHaus offers “big-bore” pistons & cylinders sets which increase the displacement from 3.6L to 3.8L. 3.8L pistons & cylinder sets are direct slip-fit into the engine case, and are ideal if the engine requires a top end overhaul.
3.8 liter upgrade components
Mahle 3.8L RS Piston & Cylinder Set (requires EPROM/ECU)
Clean, Surface, Chamfer cylinder heads (required for 3.8L)
Carrillo Connecting Rods set (required for 3.8L)
993 RS Forged Rocker arm & shaft kit (non-hydraulic)
Complete 3.8L upper engine gasket set
A jump in displacement to 3.8L using the 102mm pistons and cylinders is a great upgrade, providing approximately 38 additional horsepower and 31 ft/lbs of torque. The heads need to be chamfered for the larger piston bore, and connecting rods require replacement. With this application, we recommend using our sport mufflers to reduce backpressure, as the engine will be flowing a greater volume of air. This will provide a noticeable difference at all RPM’s.
All other upgrades from the 3.6L Sport Engine package can be used with the 3.8L piston & cylinder
sets.
The other alternative is to turbo charge our Porsche.

3.6L Carrera Bolt-On Turbo Conversion Stage l
PowerHaus now offers a Turbo conversion for all 993 model Porsches. This package is ideal for the 993 owner seeking the maximum performance from their Porsche without disassembling the engine.
By our turbocharging your Porsche, you can achieve more power, torque, reliability, and drivability than any high performance non-turbo street motor, including the European 993 3.8L RS.
Major components included in the PH Turbo Conversion:
PowerHaus Turbo Exhaust System (complete system)
Custom Turbocharger
Dual-port high performance wastegate
PH air intake conversion with K&N filter
PH oil scavenging system & braided oil lines
PH custom aluminum intercooler
Bosch boost recirculation valve system
PH custom engine management software & fuel injection modifications
The engine will produce approximately 100 more horsepower and 100 lb/ft more torque, depending on boost pressure, up to a maximum of 381 horsepower to the wheels. (these cars are rated up to 282HP & 250lb/ft at the flywheel, ours tested 234.4 to the wheels stock.) There is no turbo “lag”, just power and performance. PowerHaus tests all vehicles on a dynojet 248c chassis dynamometer before and after every Turbo Conversion.

This is a 100% reliable daily driver, requiring only 92 octane fuel and regular maintenance as per Porsche specifications.
Finally, PowerHaus warranties all Turbo components for 6 month/6000 miles. This package is currently available only as a “turn-key” conversion - no “kits” are available. By having
PowerHaus install this package you are guaranteed you are getting the most knowledgeable service possible and uncompromised quality.

3.6L Carrera Bolt-On Turbo Conversion Stage ll
Stage ll kits have everything listed in Stage l plus the following:
Lower compression pistons & new rings
PH upgraded turbocharger
Larger intercooler (a/c compatible, required turbo rear wing)
Upgraded wastegate
Boost gauge & custom mounting panel
PH heavy duty oil scavenge pump
Upper engine gasket set
Modify cylinder heads to turbo specifications, valve job
Additional labor
By lowering the compression ratio the engine can run more boost and develop 450 HP - more than a factory Twin Turbo S. Your Porsche will be substantially quicker than the factory turbo due to your close ratio non-turbo gearbox.

3.6L Carrera Bolt-On Turbo Conversion Stage lll
Stage lll kits have everything listed in Stage l and Stage ll, plus the following:
(upgrade to a full 550 horsepower and adding the following components to insure reliability)
Additonal options for a full 550HP!
Forged Racing Connecting Rods
RS One-Piece Flywheel & GT2 Lightweight Clutch Package
Full-Width Racing Intercooler with Dual Boost Recirculation Valves
Dual High Output Ignition Units
Electronic Boost Controller
Programmable Engine Management Electronics and Bosch Injectors
The final possible upgrade is twin turbochargers.
At this point the engine develops a reliable 550 HP and 575 ft-lb torque on 92 Octane/ There is no turbo lag at all, or any loss of drivability. The vehicle is
still serviceable by your local Porsche center.
On full engine turbo-conversions involving internal modifications, PowerHaus arranges and pays for the transportation costs to trailer your Porsche to Tempe, AZ. Total conversion time for twin turbo conversions is typically 45 days. We also have complete engines in stock periodically to speed up your conversion.
When our turbo conversion is compared item-by-item against our competitors, no one delivers more than PowerHaus.
