Although PowerHaus specializes in the turbcharged Porsches, we can perform a great deal of modifications to the C-2 / C-4 3.6L cars, developing greater horsepower and torque. First, we offer performance EPROMs for the C-2/4. These chips are programmed with a more aggressive fuel and timing curve, as well as a higher rev limiter. They can also be custom programmed to optimize any other modifications made to the engine, such as our performance exhaust package, lightweight clutch package, or 3.8L pistons and cylinders.
Second, we recommend an exhaust change. Our header is a tuned, near equal length system, (with in 1 inch of each primary), flows a greater volume of air, providing approximately 25 horsepower and 27ft/lbs torque. In addition, it weighs substantially less (approx. 50 lbs.) than the factory equipment, taking weight off of the rear of the car (vital for improved handling). Both the heat exchangers and the muffler are 100% polished stainless steel, and the muffler is available in either a single or dual tip, and in Touring or Sport sound level. All installation hardware is included.
The next item which has a lot of room for improvement is the clutch. From the factory, this is a bulky, heavy item. For C-2's and C-4's, we have clutch packages available which eliminate the dual mass flywheel. The package uses the special Europe-only RS/Cup 1-piece lightweight flywheel, ring gear, heavy-duty throw out bearing, guide tube, and our carbon/kevlar clutch disc and higher clamping pressure plate. Combined, this unit saves 14 pounds, which allows the engine to rev up much quicker.

PowerHaus also offers the AutoThority Mass Air Flow Sensor for the C-2/4. This unit includes a K&N cone filter, an EPROM chip (which is custom mapped with additional programming for any or all upgrades to the motor), the Mass Air Sensor, and all necessary wiring / mounting hardware. This unit replaces the factory air sensor and air box. The major difference between the OEM air sensor and the AutoThority unit is the design in the air sensing. The factory uses a "vane type" air sensor which interferes with the intake air stream. The AutoThority system uses a "hot wire" sensor which is a heated wire in the intake air stream. This design does not interfere with the air flow and enables a direct measurement of the mass of air in the intake. The system will give approximately a 25 hp gain overall with similar increases in torque. We offer this system at large savings over AutoThority's retail prices.
Camshafts are another way to increase the horsepower on this motor. Our naturally aspirated sport camshafts give the valves greater lift and duration, thus allowing it to breath easier. There is a considerable increase in low rpm torque, and mid/upper rpm horsepower. Teflon coated racing valve springs, forged racing rocker arms, and titanium intake valves and retainers are also available. These items allow quicker revving due to their light weight, but do not sacrifice strength and longevity. Call for more information and prices on these upgraded valvetrain components.
The ultimate motor upgrade is an increase in displacement to 3.8L using our 102mm pistons and cylinders. This provides approximately 40 additional horsepower and 50 ft/lbs of torque. These pistons and cylinders are a slip fit into the case. The heads need to be chamfered for the larger piston crown diameter. With this application, we recommend using our stainless steel exhaust package as the engine will be flowing a greater volume of air. This will provide a noticeable difference at all rpms. Also, the OEM connecting rods should be replaced with Carrillo rods due to their increased strength.

This is the extent of the practical work which can be done to the 3.6L engine. The items such as the porting & polishing, port matching, and extrude honing are not necessary, but greatly increases the air flow capacity of the engine.
When we last built a 3.8L Motronic engine, using just the P&C's, chip, and exhaust, we achieved a solid 300hp. With the other modifications listed, you can expect approximately 350hp, with noticeable gains throughout the rpm range.
PowerHaus also offers a complete line of close ratio gears for the G50 transmissions. We can eliminate the large rpm drop in between shifts, lowering 3rd-5th gear. This will make the car much quicker, more enjoyable to drive, and feel as it is has much more horsepower and torque! We can custom make a gear package for the street or for any track.
